No My Friend

Cars in Syria have stickers on the bonnet in bloody, dripping lettering that say NO MY FRIEND. Does it mean "No, my friend, don't come any nearer"? or "You are not my friend"? Answers on a postcard

The reverse of protest

Yesterday evening in Seyeda Zainab, at a small demonstration by Iraqi Shiites, I was interested to see the back of the placards. On the front were pictures of Nasrallah, leader of Hezbollah grinning. On the back were rose-patterned wallpaper

Poster Politics

Hassan, who sells poster outside the Seyeda Zainab shrine in the Shia area of Damascus, now sells about 50 Nasrallah posters a day compared to the scant ten a day before the trouble started. This one, of Ahmedinejad, Assad and Nasrallah, is especially popular.
